School’s back and so are we, with another Random Act of Helpfulness!

Our Helpful Book Fairs help bring books to kids at elementary schools across San Diego, but we didn’t know where to go, so we asked you, our most favorite people, to send in your suggestions. The lucky schools were: Chase Avenue Elementary in El Cajon, and Foothill Oak Elementary, in Vista!

Over 1,500 students at both schools were surprised when we pulled up and brought out hundreds of books for every student to pick from! From fun biographies on notable, and very helpful, people like Neil Armstrong, Rosa Parks, and Serena Williams (to name a few), to activity books, and books about animals, places, and positivity – the students were more than ecstatic, to say the least!

“I’ve never had my own book before, this is so cool!” says a 3rd grader from Foothill Oak Elementary. Some kids were excited to learn more about the guy who invented the Apple products, “Did this guy make the iPhone? I wonder how he came up with that!” And the teachers, were more than grateful for the chance to make a difference in their students’ lives, sharing, “This means so much to our kids. These books are something that can be theirs, and they can pass it on to their siblings or friends, and just share the love of reading. Thank you so much for being here.”

After each student received a book, they received a stamp of approval, and customization, to write their names and officially make it theirs. To our delightful surprise, a lot of the kids sat right on the playground and started reading their new books.
